Processing Qiviut

After we comb the qiviut from the animals it goes into breathable fabric bags until all animals have been combed. Once we have finished combing the animals, the qiviut is weighed and divided between the Musk Ox Farm and Oomingmak. We then send our raw qiviut fiber off to the mill to be washed, dehaired, carded, and spun into yarn. The finished qiviut yarn is then shipped back to us to sell here at the farm and on our online store. Some of the yarn is used to make beautiful garments by local fiber artists. Finally, we keep a limited amount of the raw qiviut on hand for our hand spinners and for small sample bags for our guests.
